Energy rating is an indicator that measures the level of efficiency of homes and appliances. It is classified on a scale from A, which includes properties with the highest level of energy efficiency, to G, which represents the least efficient ones.
The energy efficiency level of a property is calculated by measuring the energy consumption required to meet its energy demand. The result of this calculation is what is known as the energy rating.
Indicators used to measure energy rating
When measuring energy rating, different indicators must be taken into account. These are calculated on an annual basis and based on the usable surface area of the property, and they determine whether energy use is efficient or not.
In addition, these indicators reflect energy needs under standard conditions of use and occupancy, regardless of climate conditions. This includes the energy consumed by basic household appliances.
A qualified energy certification technician is responsible for analyzing all the necessary indicators, as well as the construction materials and the property as a whole, in order to produce a report and ultimately determine the rating. This rating is then shown on the energy label included in the certificate.
Energy efficiency certificate
The energy efficiency certificate, prepared by an expert technician or an energy services company, contains all the relevant information regarding a property’s energy rating.
This certificate includes:Identification of the property, the procedure followed to obtain the energy rating, the building’s energy characteristics, energy-saving and efficiency regulations in force at the time of construction, tests and inspections carried out during certification, the energy efficiency rating expressed through the official energy label.
