The energy efficiency of a home refers to the calculation used to measure the amount of energy required to maintain comfortable conditions inside the property under normal use and occupancy. In addition, a home's energy efficiency is documented in a report called the energy performance certificate. This certificate is mandatory when signing a property sale or rental contract.

The certificate includes information about the property's energy consumption using a rating scale made up of seven letters from A to G, where A represents the highest efficiency and G the lowest.

As a result, homes or buildings rated A, B, or C require less energy to maintain comfortable living conditions compared to those rated D, E, F, or G. Consequently, the energy costs for homes with A, B, or C ratings are generally lower than for those with lower efficiency ratings.
