What is the ITE for buildings?

The Building Technical Inspection (ITE) is a technical assessment that buildings of a certain age must undergo. It evaluates various aspects to determine the safety of the building, as well as any potential deficiencies that could pose a risk to its occupants.

Among the main areas assessed in a Building Technical Inspection are structural elements of the property, the condition of façades and party walls, and other aspects related to the building’s safety and habitability.

How often and who must carry out the ITE?

For all buildings that are over 50 years old, regulations require that the Building Technical Inspection be carried out at least once every 10 years. This inspection must confirm the safety of the building’s occupants and identify any necessary maintenance or repair work resulting from the assessment.

As for who is responsible for conducting the ITE, it must be carried out exclusively by qualified technical professionals, such as architects, building engineers, or engineers, as they have the necessary expertise in structural systems, as well as in the building’s stability, condition, and safety.
